Turkmen & Bukhara Rugs

Originating from the city of Bukhara in modern day Uzbekistan, Bokhara rugs were originally woven by the Tekke tribe, a nomadic Central Asian people.

Turkmen rug (TurkmenTürkmen haly; or Turkmen carpet or Turkoman carpet) is a type of handmade floor-covering textile traditionally originating in Central Asia.

It is useful to distinguish between the original Turkmen tribal rugs and the rugs produced in large numbers for export mainly in Pakistanand Iran today.

The original Turkmen rugs were produced by the Turkmen tribes who are the main ethnic group in Turkmenistan and are also found in Afghanistan and Iran.

They are used for various purposes, including tent rugs, door hangings and bags of various sizes.

In the course of its 2000 years, the city of Bukhara has been home to many people who have helped make it world renowned for its carpets.

Hand knotted on a weaving loom to exacting standards, these high quality Bukhara rugs take months to finish, and are weaved by artisans with premium-grade wool from finest local wool farmers in
Pakistan.

The exceptional durability and versatility of its woolen rugs are further enhanced by a seemingly inexhaustible palette of color, ranging from classical reds to vibrant greens and golds.

Whether you’re looking for a museum-worthy masterpiece or a handwoven, bohemian rug for your home, Khyber Pass Gallery has it all.
