This antique ceramic bowl was hand painted using all natural dyes. The vase depicts symbols of flowers and fish, meant to indicate that Spring is coming.
The bowl was originally intended to be used alongside other ceramic dishes and decor during Sofreh Haft-sin, a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a new year.
Live fish would sometimes be placed in this bowl for the ceremony.
The face on the bottom of the inside of the bowl represents the human soul thinking like fish; clear and simple.
The bowl is in good shape for its age, but has a repaired crack on one side.
