This authentic, hand-made Gardener teapot was specially designed for the royal families in Afghanistan, where drinking tea was common.

During the 19th century, the best teapots were made in Japan, where they also drink a lot of tea. Gardener was a well known Japanese maker of these tea pots.

The royal families of Afghanistan wanted to serve tea to their guests and dignitaries in real Japanese teapots.  These Gardener tea pots were hand-made in Japan and China and then imported to Afghanistan.

These special Afghanistan imported Gardener teapots can be distinguished by the brand name Gardener written in Farsi on the bottom.

The particular tea pot was intended for the ladies or queen of Afghanistan, as indicated by the softer colors and the jeweled flower design.

The unique design also allows tea drinkers to easily differentiate it amongst other pots. It may have been used to serve a type of tea that differed from the tea being served in other pots.
